PHILIPPINES BRACES FOR MORE AS DISASTER REACHES 8 MILLION PEOPLE
More than 8.8 million people have now been affected after relentless monsoon rains and recent tropical cyclones battered communities across the Philippines.
At least 33 deaths have been reported, thousands of homes damaged and tens of thousands of people remain inside evacuation centers.
117 local governments have now declared states of calamity.
Deadly landslides are being reported while other communities are still dealing with rising floodwaters and forced evacuations.
What started as another stretch of extreme weather has now become a disaster affecting millions. And more dangerous weather is ahead.
The southwest monsoon is expected to bring more heavy to intense rainfall, with some locations potentially seeing another 4–8 inches. With the ground already saturated, additional rain could bring another dangerous round of impacts.
